Fall Lake Fishing Report for May 24th

Fishing in the Ely area has been spectacular! With cooler weather keeping the water temps in the mid 50’s, Fall Lake continues to produce plenty of walleye. It has been reported that the bite is slow, however with a little patience anglers have had no problem finding their limit. Fishing on Pipestone Bay is fantastic right now with walleyes biting at depths of 13-18 feet of water. Jig and minnow are still the bait of choice, although Packsack anglers using leaches and crank-baits have had success as well.

Northern Pike on Fall Lake have been reported lurking in the shallows, and at depths. More reports of 40 inch plus pike have come out of Basswood’s Jackfish Bay. A reminder: on Basswood Lake “all northern pike from 24-36” must be immediately released. Only 1 northern pike over 36” may be kept.”

Biggest news of the week here at Packsack is THE CRAPPIE ARE BITING! The docks here at Packsack have been full of action with slabs of black spotted crappies. So, if you’re planning on fishing the BWCA this coming weekend, you might consider picking up some crappie minnows.

We at Packsack hope that each and every one of you have a wonderful Memorial weekend. Have fun and be safe friends!
